Raikou Select: Hidetada Takaha's 2018

Hidetada Takaha (real name: Ryo Takaha) lives in Seki-shi, Gifu Prefecture. He was born in 1986. He learned sword making from his father, Takaha Hiromune, a master swordsmith. His swordsmith name is inherited from his grandfather, Takaha Hidetada (real name: Takaha Makoto).

He is one of the youngest swordsmiths among the current sword makers in Seki, and although he has not made many swords yet, he is a swordsmith of great promise.

This sword was made as a new sword in 2018, and has a blood line that runs along both edges. The sword is well balanced, even-grained, has a good sound, and the metal fittings are all new. The handle is wrapped in pure silk the color of Adzuki. The scabbard is lacquered with a subtle brown tint while the sword guard is iron-plated with silver. The unsheathed blade weighs 855g. Every Japanese sword sold in Japan carries a torokusho, a registration certificate issued by the prefectural Board of Education under the Firearms and Swords Control Law. The certificate travels with the blade rather than the owner, and the new owner files a change-of-ownership notification with the issuing Board of Education within 20 days.

For an export sale we obtain an Export Inspection Certificate for Antiquities from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, which confirms the blade is not a designated National Treasure or Important Cultural Property. The torokusho is then surrendered to the prefecture that issued it, because a registration ceases to have effect once the blade leaves Japan. Please allow 1 to 1.5 months from order to delivery.
